Scott Hansen — Head Instructor

Scott Hansen began his journey in Historical European Martial Arts in 2014, drawn by the rare combination of historical scholarship and martial intensity. While he is deeply committed to the art itself, Scott finds his greatest reward in teaching. For him, there is nothing quite like watching a new student discover their own excitement for the study of HEMA, and he regards the process of turning that initial curiosity into genuine skill as the most rewarding part of the journey. Believing that this growth is only possible in the right environment, Scott prioritizes a culture of trust and mutual respect. Whether the club is perfecting a Zwerchau or navigating the challenges of life, he aims to always foster a place where everyone grows together.

Paul Ren — Instructor

For Paul Ren, martial arts isn't just a hobby; it has been a way of life since he could walk. Bringing a lifetime of discipline and movement to the club, Paul is our resident expert in… well, everything. His curiosity for HEMA knows no bounds, and you are just as likely to find him analyzing a complex rapier play as you are to see him swinging a poleaxe. As an instructor, Paul is defined by his infectious optimism and his refusal to believe in limits. He is the voice in the room reminding every student that with enough focus and heart, you really can do anything.
